Kaylene is one of our awesome teachers and the Head of E2School. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioural Science, a TEFL and a CELTA. She can’t wait to meet you!

Tell us about yourself?

I was born in New Zealand. My family immigrated to Australia when I was a child. After graduating from university, I set off to see the world. That was 1999! I spent 13 years living and working in some amazing countries: the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland and the Czech Republic. After my wanderlust was satisfied, I finally returned ‘home’ to Australia.

What brought you into teaching?

I originally started teaching in 2005 as a way to continue travelling and seeing the world. Then I fell in love with teaching! I’ve been doing it ever since.

So, what languages do you know?

I learnt Japanese and German at high school. I also studied Czech when I lived in the Czech Republic. Although I have learnt many languages over the years, without use, my level of knowledge has slipped a lot. So English is the only language that I know and use confidently!

What is your passion in life?

Travel is number 1, but it’s always been about learning about other people, places and cultures. I love being able to share my culture with people too. Teaching English has been an amazing way to combine work with this passion.

What country is on your bucket list to travel to?

I haven’t made it to the continent of South America yet. Peru and Brazil are on the top of my list.

Who is your number one inspiration?

My parents!

What do you like doing in your spare time? Any hobbies?

Rock climbing (indoors and outdoors), playing netball (it’s like basketball with different rules) and playing computer games.

What do you do at E2, and where can we find you?

I’ve been involved in the creation of most of the materials within E2School, and so I spend a lot of time overseeing or fixing things! When I’m not doing that, you may find me teaching a class. Otherwise, you can send me a message or book a tutorial with me.

What do you do first thing every morning?

Now that we’re working from home most of the time, I start by turning on my computer and making myself a coffee.

How do you take your coffee?

I like soy lattes. I know that ‘latte’ actually means ‘milk’ in French and soy isn’t really milk, but I like the taste!

What is your top tip for success?

I think this tip is important for life, not just for learning a language: take a large problem/task and break it down into smaller, achievable steps. Then start working on the easiest step. This way you’ll be able to see your progress (and feel satisfaction and motivation because of it).

What do you love most about being at E2?

I love that with E2, I can help so many students from so many places around the world. All the E2 students are so eager to learn, which makes being a teacher enjoyable too.
